Shrynk documentation
Shrynk is a Windows desktop product for two jobs that should stay on your machine: convert files and compress video. The converter side is the ConvertET engine — six categories, more than 200 format pairs — not a one-trick compressor landing page.
The site also has a free browser preview: one still image (canvas) or one video compress up to 100MB. That box is not the 200+ pair registry.
Install & first run
Windows installer, WebView2, bundled FFmpeg, and your first convert or compress.
Supported formats
Data, image, document, audio, video, and ebook pairs the app actually registers.
How conversion works
Pick a pair, drop files, set options, run locally. What each category can change.
Video compression
Quality presets (CRF 28/23/18) vs target file size, and the 100MB free cap.
Batch jobs
Folder-scale convert and compress. What Free allows and what Pro unlocks.
Free vs Pro
Free to install. $9 one-time for unlimited size and batch on both convert and compress.
What this product is
- Convert — data (JSON, CSV, YAML, XML, TOML, encodings), images (including SVG → bitmap and ICO), Markdown → HTML/DOCX, audio, video (including extract audio), ebooks (Calibre).
- Compress — local H.264 MP4 output from MP4/MOV/MKV/AVI/WebM, quality preset or exact target size.
- Local — source files are not uploaded to Shrynk servers. License activation is the only network call that needs to talk to us.
What it does not do
- PDF → Word / DOCX (do not expect Office reconstruction).
- AI upscale, denoise, or “restore” video.
- A timeline editor: no trim/cut/NLE, no watermarks as a feature.
- Browser-side audio/video convert, ICO, ebooks, Markdown, or batch.
Guides on the blog are how-tos for specific limits (Discord, WhatsApp, Markdown → Word). These docs are the product source of truth. If a blog post and a doc disagree, trust the doc.
