Is my video uploaded to a server?
No. The free web tool compresses your video entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly. Your file never leaves your device.
What's the file size limit for the free tool?
Single files up to 100MB compress for free, with no limit on how many times you use it. Files over 100MB need the desktop app, since very large files can exceed a browser tab's memory limits.
Which formats are supported?
You can upload MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI and WEBM. Shrynk always outputs a compressed MP4 (H.264 + AAC), the most widely compatible format for sharing, uploading and playback everywhere.
Why is the first compression slow to start?
The browser downloads the compression engine (~30MB WebAssembly build) the first time you use the tool. It's cached afterward, so repeat use is much faster.
